Plants, shrubs and trees in general
  • Institute of Horticulture -the authoritative organisation representing all those professionally engaged in Horticulture in the UK & Ireland.
  • Growing Native -a simple guide to growing indigenous trees and wild flowers, provided by The Friends of Priors Hill Copse, an ancient woodland in Butlocks Heath.
  • Postcode Plants Database -find tailor-made lists of local plants, hospitable to wildlife and suitable for gardens within your postal district. You can then drill down into the list to get full details on each ondividual plant.
  • Plants for a future -charitable company providing a resource on rare and unusual plants, particularly those which have edible, medicinal or other uses. Originally set up to support the work of Ken and Addy Fern on their experimental site in Cornwall, where they carried out research and provided information on plants suitable for growing outdoors in a temperate climate, the database currently consists of some 7000 species of plants.
  • Royal Horticultural Society -the world's leading horticultural organisation, founded in 1804.
  • Thomas Jefferson Centre for Historic Plants -established at Monticello in 1987, it collects, preserves, and distributes historic plant varieties and strives to promote greater appreciation for the origins and evolution of garden plants.

  • International Aroid Society -site feature plants from the Araceae family.



Plant types:

Alpines

  • Alpine Garden Society -founded in 1929 with the aim of promoting an interest in all aspects of alpine plants, their cultivation in rock gardens and plant conservation in their natural habitats. Based in Pershore, they are one of the largest specialist garden societies in the world.
  • Potterton & Martin -family run specialist hursery selling alpines, dwarf bulbs and woodland plants from their base in Licolnshire and by mail order.
  • Scottish Rock Garden Club -enthusiasts for alpine and rock garden plants. With over 4500 members they are the largest horticultural society in Scotland.
  • The Alpine Garden -originally established as the electronic homepage for the East Lancashire Group of the Alpine Garden Society, it has since developed into a free, non-profit international resource for lovers of alpine and rock garden plants.
