Site of the month:
- December 2011: Westonbirt
Arboretum -we featured it before, but at the end of the International
Year of Forests, there is no harm in doing so again. The Arboretum
is home to Britains National Tree Collection and at this time
of year, as the Autumn walks give way to winter, they put on
their Enchanted
Christmas illuminated trail through the old Arboretum.

- Past featured sites of the month -every month we will select
and feature a website of particular value -it might be simply
a very well designed website, or it maybe one that has particular
emphasis on the environment and sustainability.

Book
Review: The Allotment Source
Book
Author: Caroline Foley
Published by: New Holland, 2010
- Price £20.00 | ISBN
9781847736642 | Hardback
The Allotment Source Book
by Caroline Foley is available from New
Holland Publishers.
This is a beautifully presented
and written book, full of useful information for anybody trying
to start an allotment. The photographs are excellent and they
give the book a "texture" that becomes almost a motivation
to go out and start digging immediately.
It is not a book that you can
read in one go. It should be treated as an encyclopaedia, although
there are chapters that I found truly inspiring and could not
stop reading... .read more.

Courses and Conferences:
- 22/23 October 12/13 November
19/20 November 26/27 November , Oxford
- Urban
'City Block' Permaculture
The course will run over 4 weekends. Participants will embark
on a study of urban Permaculture design based on Matt Morton's
concept of 'farming the city block'. With this method we intend
for people to find more sustainable solutions within the urban
environments in which they already live rather than feeling the
need to pack up and 'run to the hills' in order to find a deeper
connection to nature. The course begins with an Introduction
to Permaculture. If you have already completed this elsewhere
this initial weekend is optional.
- See our page on courses
for other training events.
